Boot Camp: Diane R.

After day 3 of boot camp, I am proud to say we did it!  And I'm looking forward to the rest.  The third day was tough but we did awesome.  Alex made things harder for us this day, but I think that was good because he showed we could do it. My abs and legs are a bit sore today.   I could feel it when I hit the ice at Center Ice today!

I'm really enjoying the group sessions.  It's fun to be with everyone and tease each other and encourage each other.  Madison came with me Friday because GS did not have school and she was an extra little cheer leader for us.  She even joined in on our favorite (cough, cough)......planks.  Now she is to remind me to practice them every day.

Alex and Anthony are very knowledgeable about why they make us do things in certain ways.  They explain things very well and tell us what is important about each exercise we do.  They always ask how we are feeling throughout the sessions.

I enjoyed doing the bar chest presses this session, but I found the sled harder than last 2 days.  I guess my legs were more sore than I thought.  I'm proud of all us and am looking forward to keep going!

One more week!

Diane R: One week to go!  This has definitely been a great kick-start for me. I’m definitely encouraged to keep going.  My Girl Scout troop is also working on a fitness badge and will hopefully be coming to Alex for a kids session.  I read once, that the time of day you exercise works better for different individuals. I can’t remember if the article meant physically or mentally “better.” But I was thinking about it this past week after having a morning session. I personally like working out in the morning better. It energizes me and makes me feel accomplished early in the day.  I struggle with stopping whatever I’m doing in the middle of the day to go exercise. However, it did make me stop and refocus mid-day and relieved any stress that might have been going on that particular day. What are your thoughts? Feeling very hopeful for our last week!

Leslie's Weight Loss Journey

Denni asked me to write something about my recent weight loss, why and how I did it. So here it is: Just over three years ago, I went to the doctor when I was ill, and she did some blood tests. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and pre-diabetes. She said I needed to lose a lot of weight. I was in danger of a stroke or heart attack if I didn't lose weight and eat in a more healthy way. We decided what a healthy weight range would be for me, and the amount I needed to lose. It was: 100 pounds! It took me three years, but last August, I reached my goal weight. I also reduced my high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. People ask me all the time what my secret was. It's simple really. I ate less, and I exercised more. Yes, that's really what I did. In addition to cutting calories, because of my test results, I also had to reduce my salt intake, and the amount of sugar and unhealthy fat I was eating. I downloaded an app to my ...
Photo by Christine Hines Thank you to everyone who came to the butterfly release!  Thank you to everyone who helped, everyone who came to watch the caterpillars grow and everyone's enthusiasm for this project!  We had another successful year.  I originally ordered 100 caterpillars & eggs.  We are usually shipped over 100 just to be safe.  Plus we had a few community members add their caterpillars to our cage this year, so I'm not sure exactly how many we started with but over 100.  On July 30th we released 79 Monarchs.  We had released about 9 before that date (escapees into the library.)  2 Monarchs were released after July 30th.  There were 4 crysalis still remaining in the cage today.  I put them in the garden. So that is 94 accounted for! We had about 150 people come to our release!  I was so thrilled to see such a wonderful turn out.  I love how our community comes together.  We ...
